After the unexpected losses of my father one year, the next my Maltese furbaby Jynger, followed a year and a half later by my other Maltese furbaby ZIGGY, plus financial strain, I was knocked out. D.O.N.E.
I turned to food and wine, gaining 100 pounds. My knees suffered; walking for long periods hurt; stairs were out of the question. My body couldn’t take one more pound.
Memories, songs, movies caused sudden bursts of tears day and night. Multiple times, I thought I couldn’t go on. Depression with no insurance for mental care is no joke.
I could only draw on my connection to God, The Universe, The Divine (whatever your higher power) to keep me on this earth. Prayers, mediation, affirmations pulled me from the darkest period of my life, and I’ve been in doozies before... Remembering how God saved me in those times helped me to hold on by a raveling thread. But God would not abandon me.
As synchronicity would have it, my interest in tarot and oracles returned. I started pulling my cards every morning, learning to read them, using them to guide me, allowing my freewill to make changes. Crystals were always a big part of my spirituality from my first Apache Tear given to me at five-years-old by a guide at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York City. The guide mesmerized me when he held it to the light, and the black stone turned translucent. From that moment on, the power of crystals filled in my heart. At the most tumultuous time of my life, I added to my collection, and each morning, a crystal drew me to hold it during meditation. At times, I held two or more to absorb their essence! Daily affirmations of gratitude while looking at my reflection in the mirror helped me face reality and stand strong despite the situation. To enhance my senses, I diffused essential oils—peppermint to stimulate my mind, citrus to pep me up, even a blend of fir, clove, and frankincense for Christmas joy!
For years, I held my certifications as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, health coach, and yoga and Pilates teacher. I taught on and off and practiced about the same. Knowing the importance of movement to ease stress, I dusted off my mats. Sun Salutations, pranayama, and The Hundred lifted me off the sofa. The gentle movements and breathwork allowed me to give grace to my body as I worked it after a period of neglect.
In my exploration to heal my body, I discovered two beneficial modalities. Reiki, the practice of Universal energy to restore the body, intrigued me. I studied with a Reiki Master to receive my Level 1 attunement and practiced daily, adding my knees to the points. Grounding, realigning the body’s electrical energy by reconnecting to the earth, fascinated me. I added a grounding mat to my Reiki practice. The impact was immediate.
Another favorite popped up with astrology. What was once daily and monthly horoscope readings turned into the study of evolutionary astrology. I needed to know what my past lives held and where this lifetime wanted me to go. I felt lost and confused, unsure of what to do. Then the clarity of my life path astounded me. My pain would help others to heal and move forward with their lives.
PY-Jyn Joy Holistic Life Coaching formed from my need to heal myself of grief, depression, financial hardship, and weight gain. PY for ZIGGY aka The Notorious P.Y.G. since he ate his you-know-what as a puppy. Jyn for Jynger and Joy for Josy my Bichon Frise, another furbaby who passed unexpectedly years ago. Yet, like carrier pigeons, they send messages of healing.
The PY-Jyn Joy logo embodies them:
My nickname for Josy is Moonbeam since her white afro framed her cute little face. The Balsamic Moon is a dark, restful period when the moon's light is fading to a sliver of silver. The time to let go of things that no longer serve you and to come to terms with the past. It's also a time to prepare for your new beginnings that the New Moon will bring. Allow the phase to replenish your vitality and spirit. It can help you feel refreshed and renewed, with your problems diminishing and your optimism increasing.
ZIGGY and Jynger are my “Diamonds in the Sky.” The Two Stars shine like dazzling guides alongside Josy’s Balsamic Moon.
Their Silver Balsamic Moon and Two Stars are mirrors to the soul and enhance clarity. Set in a night sky of purple, signifying power, spirituality, and magick.
Astrologically, the Balsamic Moon phase is a culmination, signaling an ending and preparation for what's about to begin.
